According to the Research Center for Chinese "Comfort Women" Issues at Shanghai Normal University, as of August 14, 2026 (the 14th World "Comfort Women" Memorial Day), only six registered survivors of the Japanese military "comfort women" system remain on the Chinese mainland (data as of the public report date; subject to change).
As the victims were mostly young girls during World War II, they are now all over ninety years old, and their numbers decline year by year. Rescue documentation work continues: oral history collection, archival compilation, and testimony preservation are the focus of current archival efforts.
