Longling County in western Yunnan was a major battlefield for the Chinese Expeditionary Force during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Between 1942 and 1944, the Japanese army occupied Longling and established numerous comfort stations for their soldiers to sexually exploit. According to a report in Taiwan's *Want Daily*, records show that in late May 1942, the Japanese army transferred hundreds of comfort women from Taiwan to western Yunnan, where these Taiwanese women became victims of atrocities. Research indicates that the Japanese army in western Yunnan sexually assaulted over 800 women from various parts of East Asia.
After the outbreak of the Pacific War, the Japanese army occupied Southeast Asia, and in 1942, they invaded western Yunnan via Burma. The Chinese Expeditionary Force and local people fought valiantly against the enemy on both sides of the Nu River, creating a stalemate across the river.
The Japanese army established more than 30 comfort stations.
At that time, Chinese territory west of the Nu River was under Japanese control for more than two years, and the people and land in the occupied areas suffered countless atrocities at the hands of the Japanese army. The crimes committed by the Japanese army are countless, including the unprecedented and unparalleled inhumane practice of the "comfort women" system in world history.
In mid-May 1942, the first batch of comfort women dispatched by the Japanese army from Guangzhou and Burma arrived in western Yunnan. Comfort stations were initially established in Sankeshu, Shubaota Temple in Mangshi, and Zhen'an Street in Longling County. By the end of May, hundreds more comfort women were dispatched from Taiwan, making Taiwanese women victims of the Japanese army's bestial desires.
According to research, the Japanese army established more than 30 comfort stations in western Yunnan, dispatching and abducting over 800 comfort women, of whom approximately 500 were women from western Yunnan abducted by the Japanese army.
The Japanese army abducted women from various regions through various means. Japanese comfort women were exclusively supplied to high-ranking Japanese officers; comfort women from Korea, Taiwan, and Northeast China were mostly supplied to lower-ranking officers; and ordinary Japanese soldiers primarily abused comfort women from Southeast Asia or occupied territories.
Concealing Evidence, Japanese Army Brutally Executes Comfort Women
The comfort station located in Dongjiagou, Longling County, was established by the Japanese army during their occupation of Longling. This comfort station was forcibly converted from the residence of a local overseas Chinese merchant surnamed Dong. The rooms, living room, and even the ancestral hall were used by the Japanese army as places for receiving clients as comfort women.
Between 1942 and 1944, the Dongjiagou comfort station housed dozens of comfort women from Japan, Korea, mainland China, Taiwan, and Southeast Asian countries who had been forcibly abducted or conscripted by the Japanese army, becoming their sex slaves.
Before the Chinese Expeditionary Force recaptured Longling in 1944, the Japanese army, in order to conceal evidence, executed all the comfort women there by shooting and forcing them to take drugs—a particularly brutal method. (China Taiwan Network, He Jianfeng)
